Maria Androutsou
Mayor of Agios Dimitrios
Maria Androutsou studied Physics at Athens University and she holds a master's degree in Applied Statistics from Athens University of Economics and Business.
She had worked as a physics professor for ten years and as a banker at Emporiki Bank, since 1995.
Through the years she has taken part in Parents’ Associations and she was elected as a Municipal Councilor of Agios Dimitrios city, in 2002 and 2006.
Elected in 2010, re-elected for the period 2014 - 2019, Maria Androutsou has been serving her third, four-year term, since 2019, as a leader of the local political movement called “We change the City”.
She is a member of the Regional Union of local municipalities (PEDA) in Attica and member of the Committee on Gender Equality of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE), as well.
She was a member of the delegation of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece in the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), whereas nowadays, she is a substitute representative of the Greek delegation to the Congress Chamber of Local Authorities.
Since 2021, she has been the chairman of the Political Committee of the Network for Sustainable Mobility, Civinet Greece.
Gender equality issues, sustainable development and local democracy have always been her political priorities.
During her mayoral term, she linked the name of Agios Dimitrios with Sustainable Development, after publishing in 2016, the first Sustainable Development Report according to the GRI Standards, the UN Global Compact and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, being the first city in Greece to take the initiative of this project.
As a mayor, she achieved a fundamental paradigm shift, by transforming the Sustainability Development Report of Agios Dimitrios from a mere publication, to a true commitment under which: Municipality’s function as a whole, complies with the strategic pillars of Sustainable Development.
