Mayor Hasan Azis was born in 1969 in Kardzhali. He graduated from the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1995 as а Master of Industrial and Civil Engineering. In 1998 he obtained his second higher education degree from the University of National and World Economy, Sofia, Bulgaria - a Master’s degree in Marketing and Management.

In 2020, Mr. Azis obtained a Ph.D. degree in the University of National and World Economy, Sofia, Bulgaria.

In the years from 2001 to 2003, he was the deputy regional governor of Kardzhali Region, responsible for administrative control, state property, regional development and Euro integration. He has been the Mayor of Kardzhali Municipality since 2003.

Ph.D. dipl.eng. Hasan Azis has also been appointed as Deputy President of the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria since 2003.

Since 2016 Mr. Azis has been elected Deputy President of the MRF.

For the period 2006-2019 he was a representative in the European Committee of the Regions, being member of the Committee of the Regions’ Economic Policy Committee (ECON), and a member of the Committee on Citizenship, Governance, Institutional Affairs and Foreign Affairs of the Committee of the Regions (CIVEX), Brussels.

Currently, he lectures as a visiting assistant professor at the University of National and World Economy in the city of Sofia, Bulgaria and at the Burgas Free University in Burgas, Bulgaria. Ph.D. dipl.eng. Hasan Azis is also a member of the scientific board of the Journal Scientific Atlas with numerous scientific publications.
