Zdravko Dimitrov was born on 22.05.1963 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. He graduated from Secondary Sports School „Vasil Levski“ in Plovdiv. He obtained his Bachelor of “Sports pedagogy” from Plovdiv University “Paisii Hilendarski”. In 2002 he earned Master’s Degree in psychology and in 2011 Master’s Degree in Public Administration – both in Plovdiv University “Paisii Hilendarski”. Zdravko Dimitrov also has a Master’s degree in Financial Management from the Academy of Economics ”Dimitar. A. Tsenov”- Svishtov.

From 1981 to 1991 Zdravko Dimitrov was a competitor of SSC Academic Plovdiv and professional basketball club CSKA. He has participated in the national basketball team and won international and national awards.

From 1994 to 2007 he was the president of Basketball Club – “Academic” Plovdiv. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Bulgarian Basketball Federation (BBF) and the Board of Directors of Hunters and Anglers Society “Sokol” – Plovdiv. In parallel, he was engaged in private business.

In November 2007 Zdravko Dimitrov won mayoral elections and became a mayor of the West region in Plovdiv, with a term of mandate from 2007 to 2011. By Decision No. 824 of November 14, 2011 of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria he was appointed Regional Governor of Plovdiv Region. He was a Member of 42nd and 43rd National Assembly.

On 03.11.2019 he won the local elections and was elected as a mayor of the Municipality of Plovdiv for a term of four years. In January 2021, he was elected chairman of the Regional Development Council in the South Central Region also for a term of four years.

Zdravko Dimitrov was awarded by the Minister of Defense with a medal for contribution to the Ministry of Defense - Order of the Minister of Defense № КН-216 / 29.11.2012.

In 2015, His Eminence Metropolitan Nikolai of Plovdiv awarded Zdravko Dimitrov the highest ecclesiastical award – the Order of the Holy Apostle Hermes, by His Eminence.
