Giorgos Marinakis

Mayor of Rethymno

George Marinakis was born in 1957. He studied Law at the Aristoteleion University in Thessaloniki and he graduated with honors.

From 1982 until 2010 he has been practicing Law in Rethymno.

In 2007 he was first elected Mayor of Rethymno, a position he maintains until today.

In 2019, he was re- elected for the third time as a President of the Hellenic Union of the Municipal Enterprises for Water Supply and Sewage Companies (Ε.D.E.Y.A.)

He is an elected member of the Policy Advisory Committee (PAC) of the European Initiative CIVITAS.

He is a Vice- President of the Prefectural Committee of the Municipalities of Crete (P.E.D. Kritis). He is a member of the Committee on Institutions and Transparency of KEDE, of the Regional Consultation Committee of the Region of Crete. He remains President of the Association of Cretan Olive Municipalities (S.E.D.I.K.).

George Marinakis is married to Anastasia G. Drandaki, Notary and President of the Notary Association of the Court of Appeal of Crete, with whom they have two children, Haris and George- lawyers.
