Emiriana Sako, since March 2022, is the Mayor of Durrës Municipality, elected directly by popular vote in the local elections. Also, from April 2020 until February 2022, Sako has been Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Durrës.

During her career, Sako has been working in the architecture field for over 12 years, by contributing in the development of the city of Durrës. She has participated in all major projects implemented in Durrës, by collaborating with well-known international studios. Furthermore, Sako is one of the drafters of the general local plan and co-designer of some of the largest urban projects in the city.

During these 12 years of work experience in the Municipality of Durrës, Sako has been working in the Directorate of Planning and Control of Territorial Development, then has given her contribution as Director of Services and General Director of Public Services as well.

Sako is an architect. In 2012, she got a Master Degree in ‘Housing - New ways of living between innovation and transformation’, at the University of Rome 3, Rome, Italy. In 2008, Sako is graduated and has got a Master Degree in Architecture, at the Polytechnic University of Tirana, Faculty of Civil Engineering.

With regard to professional qualifications, in 2018, Sako got a Diploma in Energy Efficiency at Polis University, Tirana, Albania. Sako has also completed a series of important training courses such as the one organized by the US Department of State: International Exchange Alumni, International Visitor Leading Program with focus on - Persons with different abilities/UNFPA, energy audit organized by Polis University in Tirana, Urban Mobility Management in Albania, Mobalb, EPOMM, Sustainable Urban Transport and Mobility in Cities, Poland etc. She is also certified from LSE Excecutive Education in the course of Urban 95 Academy.

Sako has a broad knowledge of the English language as well as Italian and French.
